Texts show how Cornell accuser became convinced she had been raped, report says
Texts and university investigation records described by The New York Times are at the center of a report on how a former Cornell University student came to believe she was raped. The woman, who alleges she was gang raped at a Chi Phi fraternity in 2024, initially told investigators she did not see what happened as illegal. According to the Times, within weeks her view shifted to sexual assault, and she reported it to campus police and later pursued a lawsuit filed in September. The report says that the day after an Oct. 19, 2024 party, she told roommates she had taken ketamine and had sex with multiple men, but later heard a new narrative in an online forum and became increasingly distressed. The case has raised questions about why no criminal case was brought. The article also recounts an apology text from a brother and later messages stating much of what happened was not consensual.
