The highly anticipated 2026-2027 lobster season is set to kick off on July 1
Yucatán’s commercial fishing fleet is set to begin the 2026–2027 lobster season on July 1, with local industry leaders targeting more than 700 tons of catch. Enrique Sánchez Sánchez, president of the local delegation of the National Chamber of Fishing and Aquaculture Industry (Canainpesca), said larger deep-sea vessels have completed preparations to go to sea. The season will run through February 28, 2027. The state aims to match the 2025–2026 cycle’s performance, which produced 740 tons and boosted both artisanal and industrial sectors. Sánchez stressed that reaching the 700-ton milestone depends on favorable weather and effective curbing of illegal poaching during seasonal bans. He added that wholesale pricing will remain fluid initially, with previous-year lobster selling for 600–650 Mexican pesos per kilogram.
