Theft, sex offences, banned driving' - Five recent Bury cases heard by magistrates
Magistrates in Bury heard several recent cases covering driving offenses, breaches of legal requirements and theft-related charges. Andrew Smart, 44, was proved in his absence at Tameside Magistrates Court of driving a Renault Kangoo van on Bury New Road, Prestwich, on June 16 without proper insurance and without a seatbelt. He received a six-month disqualification with six penalty points, plus a £120 fine, £120 in costs and a £72 surcharge. Richard Gairns, 43, admitted driving while banned and without insurance after driving a Vauxhall Combo van on Bury Old Road, Bury, on Feb. 24, and was ordered to pay a £500 fine, with £85 costs and a £200 surcharge, alongside a further 12-month ban. Garry Tattersall, 49, pleaded guilty after failing to attend a police station for annual notification under the sex offenders register, receiving a £300 fine and £85 costs with a £120 surcharge. Other cases included David Talbot’s £9.40 wine theft from Tesco, and Jack Kenyon’s community order for stealing £175 worth of DVDs from HMV.
