This news is not good for Brooks Koepka ahead of next week's U.S. Open
Brooks Koepka's momentum in the PGA Tour suffered a setback when a hand injury forced him to withdraw from the RBC Canadian Open. Koepka, 36, opened with a 64 and was tied for the lead after the first round, followed by a 68 in round two, before a tough Saturday that produced a 72 and a late withdrawal on Sunday. He explained that gripping the club with his ring and pinkie fingers was problematic, noting numbness and uncertainty over the cause. The U.S. Open begins Thursday at Shinnecock Hills, where Koepka previously won in 2018. Koepka had been among the leaders in strokes gained/putting after 54 holes, signaling that he was in peak form this season. His withdrawal leaves the U.S. Open field without one of its most in-form players, with Thursday's start at Shinnecock Hills looming. Koepka said the issue might be related to medication or other factors, and he expressed hope to resolve it before the major.
