Three men rescued after fishing trip goes wrong in Essex
Three men were rescued after their fishing trip went wrong off the coast at Bradwell in Essex, following engine trouble that left their boat drifting. Terry Geoghegan praised two Essex Police marine officers, who responded after hearing the call and towed the stricken vessel with an Essex Police rib, Sentinel, back toward Bradwell Marina. The incident occurred at about 2pm on June 24, when Geoghegan and two friends in their 80s were returning to Bradwell in 30C heat and anchored while water levels were low. PC Daren Chambers and PC Jonathan Holby, part of Tendring district’s Marine Unit operating under “Operation Wave-Breaker,” secured everyone ashore and continued patrols up the coast. The officers noted that anchoring and calling on Channel 16 helped them locate the boat quickly.
