Trump, Rubio Weigh Firing Kimberly Guilfoyle After Mounting Reports Of Improper Conduct
President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are weighing whether to fire U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle following reports alleging improper conduct. An AP source said the officials were “extremely pissed off” after the allegations, and a senior U.S. official said a decision would likely come this week after Monday’s Columbus Day holiday. The reports, attributed to the Wall Street Journal, include claims of a threat to a host-country official, accepting improper gifts and services, and offering to use influence in return for payment of a large credit card bill. Guilfoyle has not directly responded, though her lawyer says she did nothing wrong and the Athens embassy has expressed tacit support. Rubio has declined public comment while the State Department’s inspector general reportedly examines the matter.
