Trump threatens to launch 'big attack' on Iran, resume naval blockade
President Trump threatened to launch another “big attack” on Iran and said the U.S. Navy could resume a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, less than 24 hours after the U.S. shelled the country in retaliation for Tehran’s attacks on commercial ships. Speaking in Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday, he suggested the U.S. response would continue, saying he would give “a little warning” that forces were “going to hit them hard tonight.” Trump also said he may reimpose the blockade that was lifted last month under a memorandum of understanding to end the conflict. The U.S. military redirected 142 commercial vessels that complied and disabled nine that did not. On Tuesday evening, it struck more than 80 targets with precision munitions, including air defenses, command-and-control networks, coastal radar, anti-ship capabilities, and over 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats near the strait, according to Centcom. Trump said the U.S. hit Kharg Island but spared oil infrastructure handling about 90% of Iran’s crude exports.
