Two local tourists die after boat capsizes off Mombasa's Nyali Coast

Two local tourists died after a small boat capsized off Mombasa’s Nyali Coast while returning from Fort Jesus, police said. The vessel carried seven people—two crew members and five tourists—when it was reportedly struck by strong sea waves. The incident happened Saturday, September 12, 2026. The boat departed for Fort Jesus at about 1:30 pm and capsized around 2:45 pm. Bodies of Ken Barasa, 38, and Cynthia Barasa, 33, were recovered Sunday along the shoreline a few meters from the capsizing site. The captain and three tourists were rescued and taken to Coast General Hospital in stable condition.
