Uber nears €12.5bn deal to acquire Delivery Hero, FT reports
Uber is nearing a potential acquisition of Delivery Hero in a deal valued at about €12.5 billion ($14.34 billion), the Financial Times reported. Delivery Hero confirmed it was in advanced negotiations with Uber regarding a possible takeover offer on Tuesday. The report said Uber would pay roughly €41 per share, citing multiple people familiar with the matter, and that the companies could announce the deal as early as Thursday, although terms and timing are not finalized. Delivery Hero has a market value of about €11.6 billion, and the transaction would expand Uber Eats across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. The merger could face scrutiny from antitrust regulators due to operational overlap. To reduce geographic overlap, Delivery Hero would split off part of its business by selling its Turkish unit Yemeksepeti and several European operations to an investment firm, according to the report. Uber and Delivery Hero did not immediately respond to Reuters for comment.
