USA's Wenokur dominates Championship Fleet for IOR title
xCruzo Brief
Joshua Wenokur, a 15-year-old U.S. junior sailor, won the overall title Sunday at the 33rd International Optimist Regatta hosted by the St. Thomas Yacht Club. Racing in 8-foot, single-sail Optimist dinghies, Wenokur combined fast sailing, tactics, and the ability to spot opportunities to secure the championship fleet for the IOR title. Conditions averaged 12 to 15-plus knots of breeze under sunny skies during the three-day event. Nearly 100 sailors competed from countries including Bermuda, Brazil, the British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Trinidad and Tobago, as well as multiple U.S. states. Wenokur races out of South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club in Marina del Rey, California, and is part of JK Sailing.
