VIDEO: Roman candles suspected to be cause of Chelan Hills Fire, 3 teens arrested
Three additional teens were arrested Thursday in connection with the deadly Chelan Hills Fire, which started in Washington on July Fourth. U.S. Marshals arrested 18-year-old Valentin Tabun, 19-year-old Mark Okhrimchik and 19-year-old Julian Mikityuk. All are Washington residents. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said multiple suspects fired Roman candles from a moving truck during the holiday while the county was under a burn ban. Investigators reported the fireworks ignited dry grass along the roadway, sparking the wildfire. A new video released by deputies shows the group lighting off the fireworks. The fire killed a 69-year-old man, injured six firefighters, burned 10,000 acres and destroyed more than 100 structures, with losses and property damage exceeding $6 million.
