Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney said her first four months in the role have been “busy,” but productive, in an Aug. 12 interview with the Clarion Ledger. She described the department as working long hours to meet community needs, while framing its approach as “no miracle workers” and emphasizing steps toward a “brighter future.” Brackney highlighted at least four strategic moves: data-driven reforms, deeper ties with schools and youth, technology innovation, and response teams. She also discussed expanding in-house forensic-like capabilities by pursuing BrassTrax, a ballistic-matching system, to process evidence internally and speed investigations. Brackney said she wants a Youth Advisory Board drawn from six Jackson Public Schools, using a public-health lens rather than criminalizing students.
