What's next for Katie Porter after California governor loss?
Katie Porter’s race for California governor is over, but the next chapter for the former U.S. representative is still taking shape. In the weeks since conceding, Porter said she will continue teaching at UC Irvine School of Law, including instructing a bankruptcy course in the fall, while also focusing on family life as her child moves into high school. Over the longer term, she said it remains unclear whether she will pursue another role in California politics. Porter described her campaign as focused on policy, citing plans for taxes, education, housing, and childcare, and said she enjoys generating ideas in academia. She also pointed to a shift in politics from resistance to fear, reflecting on how voters were “activated” in 2018 against President Donald Trump, and how fear now drives engagement.
