President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on Thursday aimed at expanding hunting and fishing access across the U.S., rolling back restrictions on the activities. At a White House Rose Garden dinner with more than 100 hunters, anglers, and outdoor officials, Trump unveiled “Reinvigorating America’s Hunting Heritage” and “Restoring American Saltwater Angling and Recreation.” For hunting, Trump directed Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to reverse what he called years of overregulation and expand hunting on certain federal lands. The order requires allowing hunting within 90 days in California’s Castle Mountains National Monument and Idaho’s Craters of the Moon National Monument, but restricts hunting only for species protected under the Endangered Species Act. Trump also ordered authorization of traditional lead ammunition and tackle within 180 days, reversing Biden-era refuge restrictions, and directed Burgum to encourage states to expand Sunday hunting within a year.
