The U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday that a 15-year-old was rescued alive after three people went missing earlier in the week off Alaska, following the overturning of an 18-foot fishing vessel. Rescue personnel found the teenager Monday “clinging to the capsized vessel” about 4 miles east of St. Lawrence Island, and officials said he was in a medical emergency with symptoms of hypothermia. The Coast Guard reported that the two other mariners were found dead in the water after the boat overturned. Authorities said the search began early Monday after Alaska State Troopers notified the Coast Guard on Sunday evening that the vessel was overdue and expected to return at 3 a.m. Severe weather and poor visibility prevented rescue efforts until Monday morning.
