Zack Polanski says he'll pay any council tax owed linked to houseboat
Zack Polanski said he will pay any outstanding council tax linked to his former houseboat in London, after telling the BBC he believed he was not liable while living on board. The Green Party leader, who sits on the Greater London Assembly, said he could owe between £3,000 and £4,000 to the London borough of Waltham Forest, although the council has not yet confirmed whether a bill is due. Speaking on BBC Breakfast, Polanski described calculating the charges as “complicated,” arguing the marina was largely paying business rates instead of council tax, which he assumed applied to him. Last month, the Greater London Authority cleared him following a complaint. Waltham Forest previously said it was taking legal advice due to “complex factors unique to moorings.” In May, the Green Party admitted Polanski may have failed to pay council tax and said he apologized and took steps to pay if needed.
