Aflatoxin M1 in Milk and Aflatoxin B1 in Animal Feed in Bangladesh: A
A systematic review and meta-analysis reported that aflatoxin M1 was detected in 58.7% of milk samples across Bangladesh in studies reviewed from January 2000 to January 2026. While the pooled prevalence had a 95% confidence interval of 51.6%–65.5%, a wider 95% prediction interval (32.1%–81.1%) pointed to large variation between locations and surveys. Concentration results were more alarming: 83% of pooled samples exceeded the European Union limit of 50 nanograms per liter, and 8% were above 500 ng/L, aligned with Bangladesh’s Codex-based standard. For infants and young children, modeled exposure remained below a 10,000 benchmark used for public-health concern. The review drew on 20 datasets from 12 reports totaling 605 samples, with measurements mainly via ELISA and no chromatographic confirmation.
