Audi's CEO Just Said What Cadillac Already Proved About Gas Engines

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner told Bloomberg in Monterey that buyers in higher vehicle segments are generally less willing to switch to plugging in, while lower segments show greater acceptance of battery-electric vehicles. Speaking alongside a $700,000, 987-hp supercar called the Nuvolari, Döllner framed combustion engines as delivering the “analog soul” of the driving experience—more about emotion than efficiency. The Nuvolari is a mid-engine hybrid limited to 499 units, using a V8 paired with three electric motors, with electrics handling torque fill and low-speed smoothness. The remarks echo a similar shift by Cadillac earlier this year after bringing back the gas-powered XT6 following its move toward an EV-only future.
