Australia has added about 15,000 more Toyota Kluger SUVs to a safety recall over second-row seatbacks that may not latch securely. With the expansion, the recall covers 46,467 vehicles. Australia’s transport department says the defect could increase the risk of injury or death in a crash. The affected SUVs were built from March 2021 through June 2025. More than 34,300 vehicles from March 2021 to November 2023 were already included in an earlier recall. The issue centers on the second-row seat recliner mechanism, which may not fully engage during adjustment, allowing unintended seatback movement. Toyota will repair the vehicles for free by replacing seat back return springs.
