Bartow County man said he tried to kill mother before chase ended in crash: Police
A man from Bartow County, Georgia, is accused of choking his mother and stealing her SUV before leading officers on a chase that ended in a crash, according to police. The incident began Oct. 22 in a parking lot near a Publix on Cherokee Place, where the victim said she allowed her son, Elijah Parker, 19, to drive her 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe despite lacking a valid license. Police say the pair switched seats so they could head home, then Parker allegedly began choking his mother while she was driving and prevented her from escaping. She managed to flee to a nearby Five Guys, and investigators said Parker drove away in the SUV. A phone-location ping led police to Adairsville, where Parker tried to flee again and crashed just past the Gordon County line. He was arrested and booked, facing charges including aggravated assault-strangulation, false imprisonment and theft by taking.
