Being left behind in EV charging speeds as China goes sub-5 min to 70%

Geely says its latest battery can charge at up to 2.2 MW, topping out from 10% to 70% in 4.5 minutes, with 10% to 98% in 8 minutes 40 seconds. The company also claims AI-driven predictive thermal management, with an average pack temperature of 55°C and a peak of 65°C during charging. For longevity, Geely says micro pulses of current “reactivate” lithium ions at negative electrodes during repeated fast charging, extending battery life by 20%. Geely’s figures beat BYD’s March debut and are closer to CATL’s April LFP timings. In the US, most fast chargers remain far slower, topping at 250–400 kW.
