BMW's new i3 just drove 753 miles on a single charge
BMW says its new i3 50L just completed an endurance run of 753 miles (1,213 km) on a single charge, the longest distance achieved by any BMW EV to date. The test is part of the company’s push to demonstrate its Gen6 battery technology. BMW began series production of its sixth-generation EV batteries in Shenyang on October 15, its third global production site for the new cells. The cylindrical cells are claimed to deliver over 20% higher energy density, enabling 30% faster charging and longer range than the prior generation. BMW also reports an efficiency of 8.8 kWh per 100 km during the 753-mile test. The i3 50L is built around a 113.4 kWh battery and, with 800V architecture, can add 248 miles (400 km) in 10 minutes with up to 400 kW fast charging.
