Boone County looks to remove auditor after data leak

Boone County, Indiana, is considering removing county auditor Debbie Crum after an internal investigation found she emailed personal information for all 290 Boone County employees to the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS). A public hearing is set for Tuesday, October 6 at 10:00 a.m. County communications director Brent Wheat said evidence will be presented by County Attorney Beth Copeland, and that by statute no decision can be made at the hearing; after the waiting period, the boards may consider petitioning the court for removal. Boone County hired Taft Law Firm with an appropriation not to exceed $25,000. The breach occurred June 30. Weeks later, a DCS employee forwarded the document to four county employees and two vendors, according to the county.
