Canadian wildfires rage as US President Donald Trump renewed pressure on Prime Minister Mark Carney, saying smoke is “poisoning” American air and urging action. During the World Cup Final on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J., Trump told Carney the two countries should address the fires, adding that Canada “maybe” should pay damages or face tariffs. More than 900 wildfires are burning across Canada, forcing thousands to evacuate, destroying homes, and burning about 28,000 sq km. Ontario Premier Doug Ford said on Monday Trump should offer support to “closest allies and friends” rather than threaten tariffs. In Ontario, about 1,800 people were evacuated; Whitewater Lake First Nation saw extensive damage, Chief Pauline Drake said. In British Columbia, the city of Kimberley was under an evacuation alert affecting roughly 9,000 people.
