Checo Pérez Finishes His 300th Grand Prix as Mexico City Crowns F1's Youngest Champion - Remezcla
The 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix produced a major milestone for Sergio “Checo” Pérez and a dominant outcome at the front for Max Verstappen. Pérez finished 16th—his 300th Formula 1 Grand Prix appearance—driving the Cadillac at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. After starting 20th and gaining six spots on lap one to reach 13th, his race unraveled on lap 30 due to a problematic pit stop. A 28.9-second stop tied to an issue with a wheel gun, plus a five-second penalty for exceeding the pit-lane speed limit by 0.2 km/h, left him with no points. Verstappen won, holding off Lewis Hamilton through two restarts, including after a red flag from Valtteri Bottas’ heavy crash. At 20, Kimi Antonelli finished third, becoming the youngest F1 Drivers’ Champion in history, with the São Paulo GP next on Nov. 6–8.
