Driving A 43-Horsepower Geo Metro Convertible From New York To Los Angeles Looks Really Miserable - Jalopnik
xCruzo Brief
Mitchell Kohrmann’s latest video documents a 2,838-mile drive across the U.S. in a 1992 Geo Metro convertible, starting in New York and ending in Los Angeles—despite the car’s laughably small specs. The Metro is a General Motors rebadge of a Suzuki Swift, originally sold with a claimed 55 hp and 58 lb-ft, but a dyno test showed Kohrmann’s example making 43 hp and 53 lb-ft after a tune-up and an attempted AC fix. He also had to scramble for ancient 155/80R13 tires. He completes the trip in 49 hours, 11 minutes, 18 seconds after setbacks and punishing traffic, falling short of a 48:09:53 record attempt.
