Chevy Bolt New vs. Old Review: One Big Step Forward but Many Tiny Steps Back

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt brings real upgrades, but also compromises that make it a mixed outcome versus the 2023 Bolt EUV. Production is set to end mid-2027, and GM will offer the revitalized Bolt for only a single model year. The new car is a heavily revised EUV version, replacing the smaller non-EUV model that is gone. Battery capacity remains 65 kWh, but the pack switches to a CATL-developed lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry from the prior nickel-cobalt approach, promising more cycle life while worsening cold-weather performance and adding weight. The new Bolt adds a NACS port and up to 150 kW DC fast-charging—about three times faster—while range is roughly similar at 262 miles EPA.
