Couldn't be a bigger clash for North Wales Crusader McCabe to make Wales debut
Fionn McCabe of North Wales Crusaders is set to make his Wales debut in the Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup opener against England, the world champions, in Wollongong, Australia, this morning. McCabe, who turned 16 less than a fortnight earlier, will be among Wales’ youngest debutants. John Berriman of York is also making an international debut. The match is part of Group A alongside Ireland vs the United States later today, while Scotland play France tomorrow. England’s opening match included a loss to Tonga, followed by a 82-0 win over France; the team now has a must-win game against Papua New Guinea. In the women’s competition, Tom Brindle named the squad for the final group game against Australia, with Ffion Lewis replacing Amberley Ruck.
