Dale Jr. Backs NASCAR's Call on Kyle Larson's Last Lap
Kyle Larson’s overtime win at Talladega Superspeedway reignited scrutiny over NASCAR’s double-yellow-line rule. NASCAR said Larson never went below the line, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. backed that decision after photos showed Larson’s left-side tires riding the yellow. Larson took the white flag in the lead, dropped to 11th, then charged back to win in overtime. He beat teammate William Byron by 0.041 seconds, with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. third. Ross Chastain pushed him up the inside on the final lap. NASCAR’s explanation changed twice, including whether one tire below would violate the rule, but officials maintained no tire was below in their view. NASCAR also reviewed Chevrolet drivers’ actions using SMT data. With two races left, Larson leads Denny Hamlin by 73 points.
