Deadly late-night pedestrian crash in Homewood under investigation
Deadly late-night pedestrian crash in Homewood under investigation as Pittsburgh police detectives continue an inquiry into a fatal pedestrian collision in the city’s Homewood neighborhood. Public Safety officials said first responders were called to Bennett Street and Oakwood Street around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, they found a man lying in the roadway who appeared to have been struck by an SUV, and he was pronounced dead at the scene without being identified. Officials reported that the SUV driver stayed at the scene and was described as highly cooperative with police; the driver told investigators they exited the vehicle to check on the man after the initial crash. Public Safety said a second vehicle, a gray Toyota Prius, struck the man and its driver did not remain at the scene. The Collision Investigation Unit processed evidence, including reviewing nearby camera footage. The investigation was ongoing.
