Driver, 23, pleads guilty in deadly high-speed St. Paul crash
A 23-year-old Tesla driver pleaded guilty after a fatal high-speed crash in St. Paul, Minnesota. Musab Kosar, from Fridley, entered the plea earlier this week, replacing a scheduled jury trial that was set to begin Monday. Prosecutors had initially charged him in November with criminal vehicular homicide, but authorities said he was speeding when he caused the crash. A state trooper spotted the speeding Tesla around 2 a.m. Wednesday on the ramp from Pascal Street to eastbound Interstate 94, according to a criminal complaint. The driver was alleged to be nearly 30 mph over the limit and reach speeds above 100 mph; the trooper later saw the Tesla’s lights turned off exiting at Dale Street. At the top of the ramp, the Tesla collided with a Toyota RAV4, killing RAV4 driver 31-year-old Benjamin Villano. Kosar and his 19-year-old passenger reported no memory of the crash, and sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 22.
