Driver in deadly Kansas soccer field crash released while investigation continues
A 34-year-old woman who drove a pickup truck onto a Kansas youth soccer field over the weekend has been released without charges as the investigation continues, Wichita police said Sunday. The crash on Saturday at the Stryker Sports Complex in northeast Wichita killed two people and injured 10 others aged 5 to 68, though injuries were described as non-serious. The driver was released pending toxicology results and a mechanical examination of the Chevrolet pickup. Police have not yet filed charges. The driver’s name has not been released. Two people killed were identified as Cole Adrian, 6, and Nicholas Schafer, 35, both from McPherson, Kansas. Investigators say they interviewed more than 30 witnesses, including the driver and her two children.
