Driver killed in fiery head-on crash while trying to pass vehicle near Oakdale

A woman died Thursday night in a fiery head-on crash just east of Oakdale, according to California Highway Patrol officials. The crash happened at about 8:27 p.m. on Highway 120 near Lancaster Road, where a 2017 Honda Civic traveling westbound attempted to pass another vehicle. The Civic then collided head-on with a Ford F-150 pickup. The Honda caught fire after the impact, and the driver was unable to escape, dying at the scene. The only occupants of each vehicle, both are reported by CHP. The Ford driver suffered minor injuries. The highway was closed both directions between Lancaster Road and Kennedy Road, with officials initially estimating it would reopen around midnight.
