Driver opts to cycle from Malaysia to Singapore for next grand prix
xCruzo Brief
Valtteri Bottas will replace a one-hour flight with a 220-mile cycling trip from Malaysia to Singapore ahead of the next Formula 1 grand prix. After spinning out and retiring from Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix, Bottas—who drives for Cadillac—told fans on Strava that he plans to ride from the Sepang International Circuit, about 40 miles from Kuala Lumpur, to the Marina Bay Street Circuit in time for Thursday’s mandatory media commitments. He had already completed 56 km of a 350 km ride. The 37-year-old, a multiple-time qualifier for gravel world championships, acknowledged the decision to start on slick tires in wet conditions didn’t pay off. Cadillac, meanwhile, is still searching for its first championship point in the season.
