Eaton County road worker killed, 2 others injured, at worksite crash near Lansing, troopers say
A chain-reaction crash near Lansing killed an Eaton County Road Commission worker and injured two others on Tuesday afternoon, Michigan State Police said. The crash occurred about 2:30 p.m. on Lansing Road near Nixon Road in Benton Township, where Lansing Road was temporarily closed to northbound traffic for road work. A 33-year-old man from Charlotte driving a Chevrolet Silverado stopped on Lansing Road after directions from a flag worker. A Kenworth sanitation truck, driven by a 42-year-old man from Owosso, approached but couldn’t stop, pushing the Silverado into road commission trucks on the shoulder. The road worker directing traffic was struck and later pronounced dead. The pickup driver and passenger were taken to University of Michigan Health-Sparrow. The sanitation driver and passenger were not injured.
