MotoGP sprints to have their own qualifying sessions
xCruzo Brief
MotoGP’s sprint races will get their own qualifying session starting in the 2027 season, the sport’s governing body announced Wednesday. The change means sprint events will have a separate grid from the main race format, reflecting the shorter, high-intensity character of sprints. Instead of sharing qualification structure with the longer Grand Prix, teams will plan for an additional session dedicated to sprint positioning, effectively creating a distinct competitive build-up for those races. The announcement was reported by Chiranjit Ojha in Purulia, India, and edited by Ed Osmond.
