Elon Musk's SpaceX Wants to Take On AT&T, T-Mobile -- But Both Carriers Could Cut Off Boost Mobile: Report

AT&T and T-Mobile could potentially cut Boost Mobile off from their wireless networks if Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) acquires the prepaid carrier, Semafor reports. The concern is tied to Boost’s business model, which relies on leased network capacity from both carriers rather than owning nationwide infrastructure. Executives at the companies have reportedly discussed removing Boost, though neither carrier has been confirmed to have terminated agreements. Boost acquisition discussions were linked earlier to EchoStar, whose amended SpaceX spectrum deal was valued at about $20 billion. SpaceX is also seeking access to at least 80,000 U.S. cell sites, adding pressure on telecom competitors.
