Europe EV Sales Report: Record Month -- BEVs Reach 30% Market Share!
Europe’s August EV market hit a record: battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) reached a 30% market share, up 51% year-over-year, helped by about 250,000 fully electric registrations in the month. The report attributes the strength to seasonal timing—manufacturers typically scale back for the holiday period—but BEVs are among the models that tend to benefit from shorter waiting lists. Plug-in vehicles overall rose 39% YoY, while plug-in hybrids grew only 15% to 98,000 units, leaving plugin share at 42% (with BEVs accounting for 30%). Year-to-date, BEVs stand at 24% share. Petrol and diesel continue declining, with the article suggesting the market may be approaching “peak HEV” as hybrid growth slows. It also discusses how EU tariffs on Chinese BEVs and PHEVs are shifting their shares.
