Ford Once Hid a Mustang V8 Inside a Family Sedan

Ford briefly offered a V8 inside the 1984–1985 LTD LX—an option that turned a mid-size family sedan into a short-lived oddity. The concept began when Bob Bondurant’s high-performance driving school needed a training car that could seat more than two people while still delivering the punch needed for precision coaching. Ford’s solution borrowed the Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 and front suspension hardware, dropping them into a four-door LTD body. Built for a limited run, it reportedly produced only a few thousand units over roughly a year and a half, then quietly vanished after part of 1984 and all of 1985.
