Ford's 2026 Recall Tally Tops 10 Million Vehicles as Park-System Defect Hits 741,000 SUVs and Trucks
Ford’s 2026 recall tally surpassing 10 million vehicles underscores how a single safety defect can rapidly compound a major automaker’s regulatory exposure. On Tuesday, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Ford is recalling 741,195 trucks and SUVs due to a transmission defect that can damage the park system and allow a parked vehicle to roll away. The affected models include certain 2018–2021 Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition; 2020–2021 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator; and the 2021 Ford F-150. Ford says dealers will update the powertrain control module software and inspect or replace damaged transmission components free of charge. Interim notification letters are expected by August 3, 2026, with a full remedy around April 2027. This brings Ford’s calendar-year 2026 recalls to 37 NHTSA campaigns covering about 10.3 million vehicles, following a February trailer-brake-control defect tied to roughly 4.4 million vehicles.
