Ford to see US market-share slide, forecaster predicts

Ford and General Motors are both projected to lose more U.S. market share than other automakers this year, according to Cox Automotive’s quarterly forecast cited by Reuters. Through the first three quarters, Ford sales are expected to fall 8.8%, dragging its market share down nearly one percentage point to 12.5%. GM’s U.S. sales pace is also forecast to weaken, with a 6.2% year-to-date decline through September 30 and a final third-quarter share of 16.7%, versus 17.4% a year earlier. Cox said the combined share of the Detroit automakers could hit about 36%, an all-time low.
