Ford is recalling more than 740,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a transmission issue that could allow the vehicle to roll away after being parked. Documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) say 741,195 vehicles across five Ford and Lincoln models are affected by a parking pawl concern. The parking pawl may temporarily engage while the vehicle is still moving, which over time can damage parts of the park system and prevent the transmission from holding the vehicle in Park. If this occurs, Ford warns there is an increased risk of a crash, injury, or property damage. The affected lineup includes 2018-2021 Ford Expedition, 2020-2021 Ford Explorer, 2021 Ford F-150, 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator, and 2018-2021 Lincoln Navigator, with the Explorer accounting for more than 313,000 units. Dealers will update Powertrain Control Module software and replace damaged components if needed. Interim notification letters are expected between August 3 and August 7, 2026, with final repairs targeted around April 2027.
