G.M's 'Car Guy' Talks Electrics, China and Nepotism

Mark Reuss, General Motors’ president since 2019, addressed the long-running question of nepotism while discussing the automaker’s push into electrification and autonomy. Reuss began at GM as an intern on the factory floor in 1983 and rose to the top, but he has faced scrutiny because his father, Lloyd Reuss, previously held the same role. Lloyd was fired in 1992 after less than two years at the job. GM’s U.S. share fell from more than 62% in 1980 to 19.8% in 2009 and 17.3% today, though it’s growing again. Reuss says GM hasn’t stopped producing electric vehicles and works alongside CEO Mary Barra.
