Gary Myers, part of 4-generation racing family, dies at 76

Former NASCAR driver Gary Myers, part of a four-generation racing family, died Thursday at age 76. His family first announced the death on social media but did not disclose a cause. Bowman Gray Stadium said it was saddened by the loss and highlighted Myers’ 38 wins in Modified competition, along with starts in the NASCAR Cup Series and the Grand National Series. The track also extended condolences to his wife Pam, sons Burt and Jason, grandson Slate, and the wider Myers family. Burt Myers later posted on Facebook saying his father “fought so hard” before he “can finally” rest in Heaven. Myers began racing in the Winston Cup Series in 1974 and won the SMART Modified Tour championship in 1996.
