Norris hails career best lap after seizing Spanish GP pole

Lando Norris delivered a career-best lap to take pole for the Spanish Grand Prix at the new Madring circuit in Madrid on Saturday, leaping from nowhere to beat Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli by 0.011 seconds. Norris set a lap time of 1:31.824; Antonelli was 1:31.835 after ending up second, while Max Verstappen qualified third for Red Bull and Lewis Hamilton was fourth for Ferrari. Norris said he was “shocked” to be on pole and described the run as one where “everything came together.” It was Norris’ 19th career pole and his third of the season. Charles Leclerc finished fifth, George Russell sixth, and Oscar Piastri seventh. Oliver Bearman missed qualifying after a heavy Haas crash in final practice, and Lance Stroll will start ahead of him despite setting no time due to a suspected water pressure problem.
