Gerald Almy: How to catch Northern Pike

Gerald Almy describes a northern pike fishing day in Saskatchewan, Canada, where he and his Cree guide landed more than two dozen pike, including a fish estimated at over 20 pounds. He portrays pike as aggressive ambush predators with quick, stabbing strikes, capable of both roaming in loose groups after baitfish or hiding alone near weed beds and logs. Almy notes their behavior can swing between ferocious feeding and selective, quieter interest, so anglers should carry mixed tackle. He recommends spoons in silver and gold tones, working them fast or slower and deeper, and spinnerbaits for both aggressive topwater retrieves and more subdued presentations.
