Glasgow taxi driver caught with £148,000 of 'dirty money' in car
Glasgow taxi driver caught with £148,000 of 'dirty money' in car reports that Irfan Sarwar, 44, avoided jail after pleading guilty to possessing £148,555 of criminal property found in his vehicle. The cash was initially stored at his home in Glasgow’s Robroyston on November 20, 2021, following surveillance by police. Officers stopped Sarwar in Maryhill and discovered large bundles of cash, which were located in the car, including one weighted bag. Prosecutor Ryan Watson said Sarwar was seen entering his home with a child and returning alone to a Toyota private hire taxi, then driving off with the bag. Sarwar claimed he had been working for an Albanian man and accepted £200 due to financial struggles, saying he was approached outside a pub. At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Sheriff Owen Mullan imposed conditions keeping him indoors between 6pm and 6am for six months, along with an unpaid work order.
