Have the day off, says England star as fans pull all-nighter for World Cup drama - AOL
England’s World Cup victory over Mexico in a 3-2 thriller fueled all-night scenes, with Jude Bellingham urging fans to “have a day off.” The match, originally scheduled for 1am, was delayed by about an hour to around 2am after thunderstorms struck near the Azteca stadium in the UK’s Sunday evening period, pushing bedtime to after 4am for many supporters. Fans flooded bars and pubs as the Government extended opening hours to 5am on Monday, and celebrations followed the final whistle after 11 minutes of added time. Bellingham told supporters to message their bosses to skip work, but education minister Olivia Bailey said children should still attend school to learn “resilience.” England captain Harry Kane’s second-half penalty proved decisive as the team reached a quarter-final against Norway, with congratulations also coming from the Prince of Wales and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
