Homeless serial thief who stole Oxford MP's bike jailed for over two years
Andrew Hurtault, a 45-year-old man with no fixed abode, was sentenced to 34 months in prison at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday, October 22. He was also ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge and made subject to a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) designed to prevent further offending. Hurtault pleaded guilty on July 16 at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court to seven counts of theft of a pedal cycle and one count of going equipped for theft. The thefts occurred across Oxford between June and July. CCTV captured him committing multiple robberies, including an e-bike worth about £2,200 belonging to Oxford West and Abingdon MP Layla Moran. Officers arrested him on July 15 after finding the stolen bike and tools, and the CBO restricts possession of conveyances and bicycle parts without proof of registration or ownership.
