Honda Could Build Ohio Hybrid Factory, But Here Is The Catch

Honda is reportedly in final-stage discussions to build a dedicated hybrid vehicle plant in Ohio, with potential production starting in 2030, according to Nikkei Asia. However, an American Honda spokesperson said no final decision has been made. The investment is estimated at 300 billion to 400 billion yen, roughly $1.9 billion to $2.53 billion. Construction could begin as early as 2027, and the plant is described as targeting 250,000 vehicles annually once ramped. State subsidy negotiations are still unresolved. Nikkei says output could include large Honda and Acura SUVs, shifting Honda toward producing that segment with dedicated in-house capacity rather than relying mainly on outside factories.
